Dolphins' Hot Streak Continues With Victory Over Purchase

Box Score Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent furthered their best stretch of the 2022-23 season on Saturday when the team won their fifth Skyline Conference game in their last seven tries, this time over Purchase College by the score of 72-54. Not only did the current Dolphins secure the victory over former players on Alumni Day, but guard Joshua Cabezudo also scored the 1000th point of his collegiate career.

The first half wasn't the best offensive showing for the Dolphins - they shot just 36% collectively over the first 20 minutes of action - but the team was as active as ever on defense, as they caused 12 first half turnovers. DJ Tucker and Dillon Hod led the charge on offense for the second staight game. Hod, the sophomore guard out of Great Neck, New York, recorded 10 points, two rebounds and two assists while Tucker added six points, six boards, two blocks and a steal of his own.

The game continued to go in the Dolphins' favor in the second half. The team knocked down four threes while shooting 42% from the floor, with the bench unit of Haven Smith, Adrian Rraci, Sean Goodwin, Joseph Carrier and Jalen Lewis all contributing on both ends of the floor.

11 of the 14 players head coach James Mooney put into the game recorded points, with Tucker (16 points) and Hod (12 points) leading the charge. The backup big tandem of Smith and Carrier combined for 17 points and six reboubds while Lewis' nine points was highlighted by a thunderous second half dunk. Cabezudo and Dan Porcic combined for eight steals and five assists.

The Dolphins will look to keep up their winning ways on Tuesday when they head to Throggs Neck to take on Maritime College.
