Dolphins Win Third Skyline Game In Four Tries With Victory Over Rams

Box Score

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team avenged their buzzer beater loss to Farmingdale State from earlier this season on Tuesday evening when the Dolphins defeated the Rams by the score of 59-34 on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor.

The Dolphins are winners in three of their last four Skyline Conference contests.

CMSV didn't see many of their shots fall in the early goings, but it was the team's defense that set the tone for the entire contest. Despite shooting just 23% from the floor as a team, the Dolphins caused eight turnovers in the first quarter, and Melanieann Broderick's six first quarter points was enough to give the team a two point lead after one.

The Dolphins' offense was similar to the first, but their tenacity on defense propelled the team throughout the first half. CMSV furthered their aggressive play and made enough shots in the process to lead by seven points at the half.

The second half saw the Dolphins step up on offense, putting the game away early into the third. Kira Villegas and Kayla Hanley had a special chemistry in the second half, with each knocking down threes with the others assisting in the beginning of the third. The ball movement was evident, as the Dolphins had 17 assists. The defense continued to dominant, with the Rams scoring their first basket in the second half with less than two minutes to go in the contest.

The fourth quarter was just a formality for the Dolphins. The team allowed just 11 second half points, with Maria Nardulli utilizing her entire roster in the victory.

Villegas continued her strong string of games, as she led the Dolphins with 22 points while shooting 40% from three. Broderick had a nine-point, nine-rebound performance while Hanley added nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals of her own. Freshman Julia Angeles added seven points in the victory.

The Dolphins will look to keep up their winning ways on Thursday when they travel to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's University Long Island.
