Box Score Amherst, MA - The Dolphins were faced with arguably the tallest task of the season on Tuesday evening when they traveled to Massachusets to take on #2 Amherst College. Despite impressing over their first two games, the Mammonths boasted too much firepower to overcome, as CMSV dropped their first game of the season by the score of 4-1.
The Dolphins are currently 2-1, with wins coming over Hunter College and John Jay College.
It didn't take Amherst long to get things going and put the game in their favor. Over the first four minutes of the contest, the Mammoths put two goals passed goaltender
Joel Luna, who received his first start of the 2022 season after missing the first two games of the year. Find themselves in a two-goal hole, the Dolphins continued to battle. Freshmen
Augustus McGiff and
Dominic Algieri attempted to get their team on the board but couldn't connect for a score with the Amherst goaltender out of position.
There were positives taken out of the second half of play. Algieri's athleticism was on full display when he scored the second goal of his young career while the CMSV offense took four shots on goal, doubling their first half output. Unfortunately, the contest was too far out of reach, resulting in the loss.
Luna made eight saves in his return to the pitch while Algieri paced the Dolphins in both shots (three) and shots on goal (two).
With the tough matchup in the rearview mirror,
Tommy Mattera's squad will now set their sights on Skyline action. They'll open conference play this coming Friday when they play host to Yeshiva University at Purchase College.
