Dolphins Momentum Grows In Sweep Over Valiants

Purchase, NY - The Dolphins entered the final weekend of play with a playoff spot intact, but the seeding unknown. The baseball program got off to the right foot, sweeping Manhattanville College in their first of two doubleheaders over the weekend. The wins put the team at 11-7, catapulting them from the sixth seed to the third seed with just a pair of games left on the schedule.

The first contest featured a gem of a performance from junior Andrew Geiger, who continued his ascension as team ace. The Naples, Florida native struck out four Valiants, becoming the all-time strikeout leader in a single season in program history. As a whole, Geiger pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Junior reliever Joe Decandia struck out three in two innings of relief to finish the game.

The offense put the pressure on early and often against Manhattanville. Over the course of the first three innings, the Dolphins would put up eight runs, all that was needed for the victory. Senior Michael Grisanti and sophomore Joey DiNorcia drove how three combined runs off singles, while Grisanti and Zimmermann would score another three in the second. Jake Blinstrub would go on to double home Dom Porto in the third, with Matt DiNorcia scoring on a wild pitch being the cherry on top of the offense.

Game two yielded similar results for the Dolphins. After the Valiants got on the board in the first inning, senior hurler Humberto Vela would settle down, allowing just two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. In the fourth inning, CMSV's offense would respond as Grisanti, Joey DiNorcia, Matt DiNorcia and Tyler Paulino would each collect RBI to make it a 5-1 game. Despite Manhattanville's attempt to come back, late clutch hits from Grisanti, Joey DiNorcia and Porto would be enough to seal the victory.

The Dolphins will look ahead to Sunday when they celebrate senior day and take on St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn to close out their regular season.
