Harrison, NY - The Dolphins returned to Skyline Conference action on Friday, taking on Yeshiva University in two games of the team's five games taking place over the weekend. The baseball program started this stretch off on the right foot as they combined for 38 runs in two victories over the Maccabees to improve to a 3-3 conference record this season.
The Dolphins were on the attack offensively in the early goings in game one, with sophomore
Jake Pierre and freshman
Jason Albert both driving in runs in the second inning to make it a 2-0 game. From there, CMSV never looked back, as Pierre, Albert,
Engers Marte and
Michael Grisanti all driving in runs. In the seven inning affair, senior
Matt DiNorcia led the way with three hits for the Dolphins while Grisanti and
Eric Zimmermann had two apiece. Marte, Grisanti and DiNorcia combined to score nine of the team's 16 runs.
Sophomore hurler
Joe Decandia impressed in his second Skyline start of 2022. The Beacon, New York native allowed just two hits and two walks over six frames of work while striking out seven. Sophomore
Gio Zuena pitched a clean seventh inning to finish out the victory.
The seond contest mirrored the first, as CMSV dominated offensively. The Dolphins scored in five of the seven innings played, including seven in the second inning and eight in the sixth. Reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year
Jake Blinstrub reached base in all six tines he came to the plate (three hits, three walks) while
Joey DiNorcia hit his second home run of the season in a three-hit, six RBI performance of his own. Zimmermann and Albert registered three RBI apiece while freshman
Dom Porto scored four times.
Five different Dolphins' pitchers saw action against the Maccabees in game two.
Chris Mantione received the start and struck out one in one inning and was followed by a two inning, two strikeout performance from senior
Peter Sanderson.
Aidan Rice,
Sean Kennedy and
Ivan Navarro threw over the final four innings.
The Dolphins will shift back to non-conference play on Saturday, as they take on Baruch College in a single matchup.
