Mahwah, NJ - While the rainy weather shifted the location, the CMSV women's lacrosse team and Ramapo College went toe-to-toe with one another on Thursday afternoon. The game may have been switched from home to away, but
Erin Collins and the Dolphins made it work, as another offensive outpouring led to a 23-8 victory, good for the team's second consecutive win.
The Dolphins sit at 2-1 to start the 2022 season, and their 18.6 goals per game average sits atop the Skyline Conference.
The teams battled back and forth in the early going, with the Roadrunners scoring within the first 70 seconds of play. The Dolphins responded with two goals of their own, with
Ava Starace and
Alicia Rodriguez picking up where they left off against King's College on Tuesday. The Roadrunners knotted things up at two apiece at the nine minute mark, but from there until the final whistle, it was all Dolphins.
Junior standout
Colleen MacNeil took control offensively in the remainder of the first; not only did she assist on two more of Starace's goals, but she also scored two of her own, making it 6-2 CMSV after one. The Dolphins followed that up with a 11 goal performance in the second quarter, with Rodriguez (four), MacNeil (three),
Ashley Teal (two)
Alyssa LaTorre and Starace all putting shots past the Ramapo's goaltender.
The offensive success continued into the second half. Freshman
Shania Wolfe-White scored the first three goals of her career, while Rodriguez and
Veronica Sevivas put the cherry on top to seal the victory.
Rodriguez led the way with an efficient performance of seven goals on 11 shots to go along with four draw controls and two ground balls. Right behind her was MacNeil, who collected nine points (five goals, four assists) to go along with 17 draw controls. Starace (four points), Teal (four poimts) and Wolfe-White (three points) all aided in the team's offensive effort while freshman
Kainani McConville did her part on defense with a team-high two caused turnovers.
Macey Forg impressed in her transition to goalie, with the freshman making six saves in the contest.
The Dolphins will look to keep things rolling against the Skyline Conference next week as they take on Maritime on March 23.
