Riverdale, New York - The CMSV men's volleyball team stepped on the hardwood at the Peter Jay Sharp Center for the first time in over two years. The Dolphins took on The City College of New York Tuesday night at the at home in front of a raucus crowd. Although they fought hard, the Dolphins fell to the Beavers in 3 sets (15-25, 24-26, 25-21).
The Dolphins hung tough throughout the first set as they led 8-6 early on, but a surge of offense from CCNY pushed the Beavers to a 25-15 set win.
CMSV rallied back in the next set as they made several runs, including taking the lead 24-23. Junior Terrance Strehle led the Dolphins in the set as he went on a personal four-point run to keep things close against the Beavers.
The Dolphins started the third set off hot as they took an early 7-2 lead over the Beavers. CCNY made a strong push as they went on a 12-4 run to take a three point lead over the Dolphins. CMSV kept the game close as they were able to stretch the game out to a four point game, 16-20, and even cut the lead to three points late in the match. But they would eventually fall to the Beavers 25-21.
The Dolphins were led offensively by sophomore
Kyle Thompson, as the Wantagh, New York native led the way with seven kills. Junior middle
Samuel Martinez had a strong performance of his own with three kills, three blocks and 6.5 total points. Senior
Miguel Losa paced CMSV with nine assists while junior
Kevin Erhand had four kills and four helpers of his own.
The Dolphins will look to get into the win column for the first time this season as they head to Massachusetts on Saturday to compete in a tri-match against Emmanuel College and Eastern Nazarene.
