Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins' Season Ends At Hands Of USMMA In Semifinals

Kings Point, NY - After a big home victory over Farmingdale State this past Tuesday, the Dolphins were looking to make it to the Skyline Conference Championship when they faced off against the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the semifinals on Thursday evening. Despite their best efforts, the CMSV women's basketball team saw their season come to an end, losing to the Mariners by the score of 62-54.

While a loss ended their season, the Dolphins put together a fantastic campaign - one that they can build off of next year and beyond.

The first half was a tighly contested battle, as CMSV ended the first with the lead while USMMA regained it going into halftime. Both Amber Been and Kayla Hanley turned up their play with the spotlight on them, as they combined for 27 of the team's 29 first half points. While the backcourt duo kept up their strong play over the remainder of the game, the Mariners were too much to overcome, as they outscored the Dolphins 33-25 over the remainder of the game while also grabbing 30 rebounds compared to 14 from the CMSV.

Been finished her terrific first season in Riverdale with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals while shooting 50% from floor. Hanley impressed herself, as she scored 22 points over own, while Melanieann Broderick led the way with eight boards.

The Dolphins wrapped up their season with a 18-6 record and 15-5 mark against the conference. With players like Been, Hanley, Broderick, Kira Villegas and others returning to the college next season, 2022-23 will be a year to watch.
