Dolphins Return To Win Column With Come From Behind Victory Over John Jay

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins rebounded after a pair of tough conference losses on Thursday night when they went on to come from behind in the early goings and defeat local rival John Jay College 48-45 on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor. A strong second half for senior Amber Been helped propel the team to their third victory in five tries thus far.

The Dolphins showed their perseverance early on, which aided in the team's eventual lead at halftime. John Jay jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage, knocking down each shot in ensuing possessions. From there, it was the Dolphins' turn to go on a run, and it started once Tiffany Williamson came off the bench. The sophomore guard provided her team with much needed energy, including scoring in consecutive possessions to cut the Bloodhounds' lead to three. She would eventually tie things up at 10 with her third basket of the game while Kayla Hanley's layup with less than two minutes to go in the first to give the Dolphins their first edge of the game.

The Dolphins would clamp down on the defensive end of the court in the second period, resulting in John Jay shooting just 12% from the floor while also having six turnovers. Williamson led the way in the first half with six points while five different Dolphins had one basket each, resulting in a 21-16 CMSV lead as the teams went to the locker room.

CMSV came out firing on both ends of the floor out of halftime, as they went on to outscore John Jay by eight points while knocking down every free throw attempt. John Jay had a strong comeback attempt in the final 10 minutes of action but the Dolphins did enough to keep their lead intact for good.

Been's 10 second half points gave her 12 on the night,  a team high. The Bronx native added six rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win. Melanieann Broderick added 10 points of her own while senior Kira Villegas led the team with eight boards and four steals.

The Dolphins will look to capture their first conference victory on Saturday when they head to King's Point to take on USMMA.
