Farmingdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball was well on their way to their third straight win to open the 2022-23 season, but Farmingdale State College had other plans, as a last second three pointer by the Rams was converted, resulting in a 53-50 loss for the Dolphins. Despite the outcome, head coach
Maria Nardulli saw a terrific performance from junior guard
Kayla Hanley, who led her team with a season-high 21 points to go along with five boards, three assists and a steal.
Forward
Melanieann Broderick provided nine points and seven rebounds for the Dolphins, while
Kira Villegas,
Julia Angeles and
Shania Wolfe-White each had six points of their own. Villegas also paced her team with four assists while Angeles, the first Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this season, had a team-best eight rebounds and four steals.
The Dolphins and Rams played it close over the first half of action, but it was CMSV who remained on top by the score of 30-25. As a whole, the Dolphins forced the Rams to cause 13 turnovers while winning the rebound battle 16-14. Hanley impressed in the first 20 minutes of action, going six of seven from the floor while knocking down a pair of threes.
The action remained similar in the third, but it was the final quarter that doomed the Dolphins. The Rams outscored CMSV 23-11 in the final 10 minutes, with the dagger coming off an inbound pass from beyond the three point line for the victory.
The Dolphins, now 2-1 through their first three games, will have the rest of the week to recoup before a home showdown against St. Joe's Long Island on November 29.
