Dolphins Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against CCNY

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins returned to their home court on Saturday afternoon, continuing their stretch against CUNY opponents, this time playing host to the City College of New York. CMSV struggled to carry their momentum from their strong offensive outpouring against Hunter College on Thursday as they dropped the matchup by 12 points. The Dolphins were highlighted by junior transfer Joshua Cabezudo, who recorded a first half double double en route to a 21 point, 15 rebound performance.

It was the Cabezudo show early on in the first half. The Perth Amboy, New Jersey native controlled the Dolphins' offense and went to the rack at will. The point guard scored ten of the team's first 14 points, with all shot attempts coming both in the paint and at the free throw line. Both sides would trade leads, as neither team's lead would grow beyond three points. The Dolphins entered halftime down three.

The final 20 minutes of action remained a back and forth affair. After CMSV fell behind by eight in the early going, DJ Tucker entered the game and started to bring the momentum back into the home team's favor. The junior transfer was a force on both ends of the floor, causing two turnovers before going back the other way with seven total points in his first two minutes of action. The game was tied at 51 at the 8:03 mark, but that's when the Beavers took over. The visitors went on a 8-0 run at that point, with the lead being enough to stay on top for the remainder of the contest.

Cabezudo had his best performance in his young CMSV career, shooting 50% from the floor. Tucker's second half was equally as impressive, with the Florida native finishing the game with 17 second half points to go along with five boards and a steal. Senior Aaron Darab also finished in double figures (12 points), with Dan Porcic leading the way with 12 rebounds and three assists.

The Dolphins will get a much-needed break this week after five games in a week's span. They'll regroup and look to Connecticut College on December 3 as their next opponent.
