Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dolphins Struggle In Home Opener Against NYU

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team took their home court for the first time in the 2022-23 season, taking part in a showdown against a local opponent in New York University. The struggles to start the year continued for the Dolphins, as they dropped their second contest in as many regular season games, this time by the score 87-56.

The Dolphins were clearly ready to show out in front of the home audience, and it was reflected early on. The Dolphins jumped out to an impressive 11-3 lead, with Dan Porcic, D.J. Tucker and Jack Connolley all generating points for their team. The Violets, however, would respond in a major way, going on a 20-0 run before CMSV got back on the board on a Dillon Hod layup with 9:34 to go in the half. The Dolphins would battle valiantly for the remainder of the first half, but NYU would answer each time, resulting in a 46-29 score going into the locker rooms.

Despite the numbers on the scoreboard, the Dolphins found success in different areas. The team shot 57% from three point range while also leading the way in fast break points.

The second half, however, was a different story. CMSV struggled as a whole offensively, shooting a combined 29% from the floor while turning the ball over 10 different times. The Violets would continue their hot streak on offense, resulting in the win for the road team.

Porcic, reigning First Team All-Conference member, led the way for the Dolphins, scoring 16 points while shooting an even 50% from beyond the arc. Joshua Capezudo paced CMSV with nine boards and added six points, with Tucker adding six rebounds and three assists of his own. Guard Aaron Darab was a menace on the defensive end of the floor, as he generated four steals.

The Dolphins will receive the day off on Wednesday before turning their attention to Hunter College. They'll hit the road for this non-conference matchup this coming Thursday.
