Dolphins Struggle In Opening Night Contest Against Centenary

Box Score Hackettstown, NJ - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team opened their season on the road on Friday night when they traveled to New Jersey to take on Centenary University. The Dolphins - who had a large overhaul of the roster over the summer - saw their chemistry struggle in game one, with the team dropping the non-conference bout 91-66. It was just the third time CMSV lost a game to the Cyclones in 12 career matchups between the two institutions.

Centenary jumped out to an early lead, with the deficit reaching 10 points. The Dolphins, led by Dan Porcic, Aaron Darab and Joshua Capezudo, chipped away at the Cyclones advantage, with big baskets from each player bringing the game within single digits. CMSV would receive their first lead of the game off the back of D.J. Tucker, who attacked the lane and converted a layup to make it 24-22. Both sides would trade baskets, but it was Centenary who went on an 11-0 run in the final two minutes of the first half to extend their lead.

Unfortunately for CMSV, their struggles bled into the second half, as the Cyclones would see their lead balloon to 20 points.. Despite their best efforts to cut into the lead, the James Mooney-led team couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities, resulting in the loss.

While the result didn't turn out the way the team wanted, there were bright spots. Darab, the senior guard, picked up where he left off after his strong junior campaign and had success on both ends of the floor. The Viriginia native paced the Dolphins with 17 points on six of 11 shooting while also leading the way with seven steals. Darab also added three rebounds and an assist. Tucker and Capezudo had 10 points apiece in their CMSV debuts while Porcic had six points and six boards.

The Dolphins will regroup over the weekend and return to action on Monday when they take on Division-I Long Island University.
