Riverdale, NY - After an impressive performance on Monday against Farmingdale State, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's kept up their positive momentum and translated it into a victory, as the Dolphins walked off the Sharp Center court on Wednesday evening winners against Purchase College in straight sets.
CMSV is now 2-3 in conference play with a full slate of games on the horizon.
The Dolphins had their way with the Panthers over the duration of the contest, but new faces emerged as vital reasons behind the team's win. First year player
Stacy Njimogu, who has primarily played the middle for the program, was fed all night long, and the junior took advantage of the opportunity. The Bronx, New York native led the team with 10 kills and was the only Dolphin to reach double figures in that category. Middle
Katelynn Fanjul stood out when receiving more hitting opportunities, with the junior generating eight kills of her own.
The familiar faces played their part as well.
Melanieann Broderick and
Elizabeth Flores both had eight kills apiece, with Broderick adding eight aces and 10 digs while Flores two and nine of her own.
Isabella Garcia continued to impress on defense with a team-high 11 digs while
Lydia Aryee and
Charlotte Martin combined for 31 assists.
The bench did their part as well.
Emma Contes' strong serving game was on full display with three aces of her own while
Liana Cabeza and
Katherine Torres combined for four kills.
Kat Desmangles put the cherry on top for her team, with her game winning ace serving as the first point in her collegiate career.
The home stand rolls on for CMSV, with the Dolphins set to host Kean University on Friday.
