Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team competed in their final regular season contest on Tuesday afternoon when they hosted Maritime College in a midday matchup down at Marillac Field. The Dolphins used their last contest as a tuneup before the Skyline Conference playoffs, as they cruised to a dominant 5-0 lead over their local rivals. The Dolphins finished their season with an 8-4-3 overall record and 6-2-3 conference record, ensuring a spot in the postseason for the second consecutive year.
It was the
Ian Lamas show in a game where CMSV dominated, as the junior looked just like the player he was a season ago when he was named First Team All-Skyline Conference. The midfielder from Mamaroneck, New York scored four of the team's five goals, with the hat trick being secured in the first half alone.
Donovan Speer,
Ruben Collazos,
Augustus McGiff and
Nicholas Guardino did excellent jobs setting up Lamas, with all four picking up assists on the goals.
The Dolphins won the possession battle throughout the entirety of play, with CMSV outshooting Maritime 26-12. The nail in the coffin came in the 58th minute when sophomore
Mario Bunjaj lobbed a rainbow pass to a sprinting McGiff, who scored his eighth goal of the season.
Goalkeepers
Giovanni Garufi,
Joel Luna and
Erick Pantoja all saw action on Tuesday, with the trio recording three total saves in the shutout.
With games on the Skyline schedule remaining, the Dolphins await their postseason fate. Check back to CMSVAthletics.com later this week as the team finds out who they play this postseason.
