Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dolphins Battle Golden Eagles, Ultimately Fall In Four Sets

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team took on St. Joseph's University Long Island on Tuesday evening, with CMSV playing in front of their fans for the fourth straight game. While the Dolphins have seen continued growth over the last number of weeks, the Golden Eagles were too tall of a task to overcome, with the visitors walking away winners of three sets to one. Despite the loss, the Dolphins played St. Joe's as close as it gets, with the final two sets finishing by a combined six points.

The Dolphins came out sluggish to start the contest, with the first set ending decisively in favor of the Golden Eagles 25-13. Instead of letting it affect their performance, head coach Matt Johann's team responded. CMSV would lead by as many as five points, with Elizabeth Flores and Melanieann Broderick combining for seven kills. The Dolphins dropped both the third and fourth set, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. The home team would trade points with the Golden Eagles - the conference's fourth ranked team - for the rest of the contest.

Broderick would finish her night with 15 kills, a team-high, while also tying her season-high with 15 digs. Flores wasn't far behind, ending the contest with nine kills while pacing the team with six service aces. Stacy Njimogu had another impressive game for her team with five kills, three assists and three blocks. Isabella Garcia had an even 20 digs for the Dolphins, giving her over 200 on the season. Charlotte Martin led the way with 14 assists while Lydia Aryee added 13 assists and a pair of kills of her own.

The Dolphins will turn their attention to Manhattanville College as they continue to battle for a playoff spot. CMSV will head to Purchase to take on the Valiants on Thursday.
