Riverdale, NY – The men's basketball team participated in the second game of a home double header on Thursday evening, taking on Farmingdale State in a matchup on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor. The Dolphins battled valiantly, but despite trading leads with the Rams in the second half, CMSV fell short, losing 79-65.
With the loss, the Dolphins fell to 4-3 in conference play.
The first half was a struggle for CMSV. Despite sophomore
Elijah McKenzie's hot start with eight of the team's first 10 points, the Dolphins shot just 36% from the floor in total. One bright spot over the first 20 minutes of action was the play from sophomore
Jack Connolley, who poured in nine points on four of five shooting.
The Dolphins surged in the second half, battling back and forth with the Rams as both sides traded leads. CMSV opened the half with a dominant 11-0 run, with buckets coming from McKenzie,
Aaron Darab and
Shakirro Samuels. A Darab three after a steal from
Kelvin Turner-Harris and off a pass from Connolley gave
James Mooney's team their first lead of the contest with less than 14 minutes to go. The scoreboard would change hands on seven different occasions until the 8:08 left on the clock, when the Rams stayed on top for good.
Connolley had a breakout performance for his team, pacing the Dolphins with 17 points, including knocking down two of three three pointers. McKenzie finished with 16 and seven boards of his own, while Darab and Turner-Harris combined for 16 points and four steals.
The Dolphins will look to return to the win column on the road this weekend when they head to Kings Point to take on USMMA.
