Riverdale, NY - After nearly two years of no games in front of their home crowd, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team treated the raucous fanbase with an impressive five set victory over Rutgers-Newark. This was the first time the Dolphins stepped foot on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor since November of 2020. The victory brings CMSV's record to 4-1 on the season.
The contest was a tale of two halves over the first four sets of play. The Dolphins came out and dominated in sets one and two, winning by the scores of 25-19 and 25-16. Both
Rianna Rivera and
Dez Brown controlled the middle of the floor with 11 and 10 kills, respectively while blocking a combined five shots. Senior standout
Madison Gale was her typical self, too, as she assisted on over 40% of the Dolphins' points.
From there, the Scarlett Raiders stormed back, ratting off two straight set victories while allowing CMSV to register just 33 points. But in the final set of the evening, it was the Dolphins who emerged on the winning end, thanks in large part to a ferocious fanbase.
Rivera paced the team with 13.5 points while Gale amassed 45 assists.
Samantha Schroeder was her typical self on the offensive end with nine kills before exiting with an injury.
Melanieann Broderick continued to stand out in her first season in Riverdale with nine kills and 17 digs while
Elizabeth Flores provided a spark off the bench late in the game with 7.5 points of her own.
The Dolphins now set their sights on Hunter College, who will travel to campus on Thursday. Tune in live on CMSVAthletics.com.
