Game Recap: Baseball |

Dolphins Return To Field, Dominate Maccabees In Sweep

Yaphank, NY - After a layoff of over two weeks, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team returned to the field on Friday morning, taking on Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference double header on Long Island. The Dolphins didn't miss a beat, as they swept the Maccabees by the scores of 18-0 and 24-0, picking up two conference wins along the way.

CMSV is now 8-3 on the season with a 5-3 mark against conference foes.

The first game saw the Dolphins dominate in the early going. After both Jake Blinstrub and Matt DiNorcia reached base to start the bottom half of the first, junior standout Michael Grisanti tripled them home, giving the Dolphins an early two run edge. From there, junior Eric Zimmermann and freshmen Sean Kennedy and Joey DiNorcia each collected RBI, while Blinstrub followed suit with an infield single.

Grisanti once again got the job done when he came up for a second time in the opening inning, as he belted a grand slam, good for his fifth home run of the year, to make it a 10 run game. Between the second and fourth innings, the Dolphins would plate eight more runs off the bats of Kennedy, Blinstrub, Grisanti, Zimmermann and Jordan Perykasz, resulting in the win.

While the bats were going, the pitching was just as dominant. Sophomore Aidan Rice continued his dominant 2021 season as he picked up nine strikeouts in just four innings for the win. His ERA now sits at an impressive 1.64 on the season.

The second game between CMSV and Yeshiva was equally as impressive for the Dolphins. Grisanti, Zimmermann (2) and sophomore Jake Pierre each added home runs to the stat sheet in game two, while 11 different
Dolphins drove in runs. Max Weinstein, Mike Castiglia, Jackson Branigan, Allan Santana and Thomas Gray all came off the bench and reached base in game two.

And like the first outing, pitching held their own. Junior Peter Sanderson, who has been dealing with back issues this season, got the start and went five strong innings, good for 12 strikeouts, a career-high.

The Dolphins will once again face the Maccabees in a double header this coming Sunday. Stay tuned to CMSVAthletics.com for more coverage.
