Dolphins Win Overtime Thriller, Improve To 5-1

Box Score Patchogue, NY - After a long holiday layoff, the women's basketball team returned to the court to continue Skyline Conference play, this time against St. Joseph's College-Long Island. Both sides battled valiantly, but clutch defensive plays ensured CMSV's victory. The Dolphins improved to 5-1 on the year, including two wins in three games against conference competition.

The Dolphins had a fantastic first half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 29-21. It was a balanced offensive attack, as all five starters - Amber Ben, Victoria Hanley, Kira Villegas, Dez Brown and Melanieann Broderick - scored for the Dolphins.

The Golden Eagles stormed back and put up 25 in the third quarter, but the Dolphins were able to hold the team off and tie things up with clutch buckets from Brown and Hanley. A number of threes from Been and a last second block by Tiffany Williamson were enough for CMSV to leave Long Island with the win.

Been led all scorers with 32 points, including converting 10 of 14 from the charity stripe. Brown (12), Hanley (11) and Broderick (11) also finished in double figures, while the sophomore from the Bronx dominated the boards with 23 rebounds. Been paced the team with eight assists while the Dolphins combined for 10 steals.

CMSV will now turn their attention to Old Westbury, who they'll take on at home this coming Saturday.
