Riverdale, NY - After their first round upset victory over the higher-seeded Golden Eagles, the Dolphins will be traveling back to Long Island on Thursday, this time to take on the Rams of Farmingdale State. While CMSV dropped their lone regular season contest against Farmingdale earlier this season, the team's win against St. Joe's Long Island hopes to put momentum on the Mount's side.
"SJLI was a great performance in extremely difficult conditions," said head coach
Stuart Dick. "Playing them a week earlier definitely allowed us to know what to expect and prepare accordingly. The girls were diligent enough to stick to the game plan and eventually we found a way through."
In what has been a theme all season long,
Emily McCarthy stole the show with her two goals agains the Golden Eagles in the quarterfinals. But a balanced attack may be necessary to topple the Rams, and that's something Coach Dick has at his disposal. Freshmen
Alicia Rodriguez and
Amanda Cotroneo have been positives on the offense end this season, while
Cristina Britton will provide the necessary energy and skill both on and off the field.
But it won't only be about offense. The tremendous play of the defense must be matched. And with senior
Lauren Vetoulis, goalkeeper
Kora-Lynn McCullough,
Riley Leedholm,
Isabella Naranjo and
Hannah Eschmann, among others, leading the charge, it's safe to say the Dolphins like their chances.
"In order to win anything, you have to beat the best, and Farmingdale's history in the conference and record this season shows they are the team to beat," continued Coach Dick. "I would take this team to battle with anyone. We are going into this game confident and ready for the challenge."
Kickoff for today's game will be at 4 PM. Make sure to tune in live right here on CMSVAthletics.com
