Delhi, NY - The men's basketball team was back on the court on Friday, looking to pick up where they left off on the Sharp Center floor this past Wednesday when they defeated Hunter College by 30-plus points. The momentum, however, was halted, as the SUNY-Delhi Broncos held on to a late lead to ensure the victory.Â
The Dolphins are now 1-2 on the year, with all three of their contests coming against non-conference competition.Â
Â
The first half was a tightly contested battle, as the Dolphins impressed by shooting nearly 42% from beyond the arc while knocking down eight of 12 free throws.Â
The second half escaped from the Dolphins at times, with the Broncos' lead extending to 11 points at the halfway mark. CMSV was able to cut into the deficit with six straight points from
Elijah McKenzie,
Dan Porcic and
Kalos Evans to make it a two point contest.Â
Â
The game stayed closely contested until the final whistle, but a lack of free throw conversions doomed the Dolphins, resulting in the loss.Â
McKenzie had a breakout performance, as the sophomore led all Dolphins with 15 points to go along with four boards. Porcic had his third straight game scoring in double figures while Evans had another impressive performance both on offense and on the glass (13 points, eight rebounds, five assists).
Â
Senior
Jeremiah Simmons was a spark off the bench, shooting five of 11, including four of five from the charity stripe, continuing his efficient start to the year.
Aaron Darab provided six points and eight rebounds while
Haven Smith added eight and six of his own.Â
