Brooklyn, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team went on the road and picked up a much-needed victory over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday, giving the Dolphins their sixth conference victory in 2021. With one final game on the regular season schedule, CMSV is currently slated as the fifth seed, putting them in position to make a run at the Skyline crown.
It was an eventful first half for the Dolphins, as the team scored each of their four goals within the first 45 minutes of play. Junior
Naomi Juvera was the first two place the ball past the Bears' goalkeeper, which took place in the fifth minute. That was the Pharr, Texas native's first goal of the 2021 season.
Freshman
Alicia Rodriguez continued the terrific start to her collegiate career when she potted her eighth goal of the season in the 22nd minute off an assist from senior
Cristina Britton. From there, it was junior standout
Emily McCarthy who got on the board, resulting in her team-leading 20th goal this season. Junior
Caitlin May capped off both the first half and the game with her first goal of the year, with Britton and McCarthy recording assists.
CMSV's defense was just as dominant.
Lauren Vetoulis,
Amanda Cotroneo and
Riley Leedholm led the charge in the Dolphins' back line, all the while junior keeper
Kora-Lynn McCullough secured her third shutout this season.
The Dolphins' final test before the postseason will be a tough one. They'll travel to Long Island to take on Farmingdale State College this coming Wednesday.
