Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Said Vincent's men's volleyball team was back in action after their Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn and Ramapo College. The Dolphins played host to Colby Sawyer College, who came to Riverdale from New Hampshire. It was a back and forth affair on the Peter Jay Sharp Center court with CMSV getting the best of the Chargers, winning 3-0.
The first set was one of the competitive of the season, with both sides trading points up until the 13-point mark. During that span, the Dolphins got three consecutive points, including kills by the freshman duo of Mark Nilaj and Felix Paulino. Despite the impressive play, the Chargers escaped with the 25-13 set win.
The second set was another close battle between both sides. As a whole, the Dolphins had six kills, a block and a service ace over 21 points but came up short against the Chargers, falling by the score of 25-21.
The theme continued into the third set, with CMSV going on consecutive scoring runs on two different occasions early on. Over that span, freshman Terence Strehle collected three kills to make it an 8-6 set in favor of Colby-Sawyer. Nilaj added an ace to cut the Chargers' lead to five (17-12) but the visitors emerged victorious once more, sweeping the match.
Strehle was the Dolphins' top offensive performer with a team-high eight kills while Nilaj and Paulino had five apiece. Miguel Losa paced the team with 15 assists.
CMSV returns to Skyline Conference action on Thursday when they travel to Brooklyn to take on the Bears.
