Dolphins Down Gryphons By Double Digits At Home

Box Score

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins returned to Riverdale on Tuesday evening, as the College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team hosted Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference matchup. After defeating Mount Saint Mary one week ago, CMSV dropped their last content to USMMA and were looking to right the ship.

The Gryphons came to play to start the half, leading 10-3 just six minutes into the game. After their lead ballooned to 11 (16-5), the Dolphins began to flex their own muscles on offense and began to mount a comeback. Sophomore Kelvin Turner-Harris knocked down a big three pointer off a pass from senior Mamadou Mariko to cut the Gryphons' lead to single digits.

From there, CMSV went on an 11-0 run over a two and a half minute span to put the Dolphins ahead for the first time since the early seconds. Their play was highlighted by a strong layup from senior David Collins and four straight points for sophomore Kalos Evans. From there, both teams would trade leads with each possession until time expired in the half. The Dolphins went into the locker room down 27-24.

The front court duo of Mariko and Vine Tavella led the team with five points apiece while Evans came off the bench and provided five of his own. Mariko also paced the team with four first half rebounds while junior Qwame Thompson added two boards and two assists.

Sarah Lawrence were firs to get on the board but a big three from Makai Johnson made it a two point game once again. Despite Sarah Lawrence's best effort to pour it on, the Dolphins went step by step with them in the points columns. CMSV finally regained their lead when Raiquis Harris and Johnson scored five points in back to back possessions to make it a 39-36 game.

Just a couple of minutes later, the home team had a tremendous run, where they scored 10 straight points, with Collins scoring six of them to go along with two offensive rebounds. The Dolphins further extended their edge when Turner-Harris and Mariko scored seven straight points of their own to make it a 15 point game in favor of James Mooney's team. From that point on, the Dolphins never looked back, as they defeated the Gryphons by the score of 69 to 52.

Despite failing to score in the first half, Harris finished the night with a team-high 13 points. He also added five boards and three assists to the stat sheet. Johnson impressed, shooting 75% from beyond the arc and ending with 11 points of his own. Collins and Mariko came off the bench and combined for 15 points while Mariko finished his night with a team-high eight rebounds.

CMSV, now 4-7 in the conference, will look to keep up their winning ways against Yeshiva University. They'll be heading to the Maccabees' home this Saturday for an 8:00 PM tip-off.
