Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team had their final tuneup before the postseason on Saturday when they hit the road to Farmingdale to take on the Rams. The Dolphins, currently slated as the fifth seed, are set to take on St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Tuesday.
The first quarter didn't go as planned for CMSV, as they trailed Farmingdale by one point after 10 minutes of play. It wasn't for a lack of effort, though; Victoria Hanley dominated with nine points after going six for six from the charity stripe. The next quarter looked more like the Phil Stern team that is entering the postseason.
The Dolphins forced the Rams to shoot just 17% from the floor while causing seven turnovers. It was Aria Rheams' turn to take over on the offensive side of the floor as she scored all five of her shots, good for 11 points. Hanley continued her hot game with five second quarter rebounds.
CMSV continued their strong play well into the second half. While they struggled as a team to get the ball in the basket, they continued to stifle the Rams on defense which led them to the win.
Rheams had, once again, a dominant performance. The junior scored a team-best 25 points while snagging 15 boards. Hanley was all over the stat sheet, collecting 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal in 33 minutes of action. Kira Villegas wowed on the defensive end with six steals while Ashley Martin had four points and seven rebounds of her own.
The Dolphins, despite entering the season selected eighth in Skyline preseason rankings, finish with an overall record of 14-10 and a conference mark of 12-8. They now have their eyes on Tuesday, where the Bears will await them in Brooklyn.
