Box Score Purchase, NY- The Women's Basketball team took the court for the first time in 2020 this Saturday when they traveled to new Skyline Conference foe Manhattanville. The women were looking to start the New Year off right and after 40 minutes of battle, they came up just short of doing so. The Dolphins fell to the Valiants 77-70 despite
DarNeisha Brice going off for 36 points.
The first quarter the Valiants came out ready to play in the New Year as they jumped out to an eight-point lead over the Dolphins after the first quarter of play. The Dolphins would tighten things up in the second quarter and cut the lead to just five heading into half time. The Dolphins saw newcomer
Victoria Hanley make an immediate impact as the transfer netted 10 first half points and helped keep CMSV in the game. Hanley was not the only Dolphin playing great offense, Brice continued her impressive season thus far and poured in 17 first half points.
The Second half is when the game really started to tighten up and certainly had a playoff atmosphere feel. Brice and Hanley would continue to lead the way for the Dolphins; Hanley would finish with 18 and Brice with 36. The Dolphins would take a 70-69 lead at the 2:45 mark off a Brice three but the offense would stall for the remainder of the game and Manhattanville would score eight unanswered points to secure the 77-70 win. Despite the loss the Dolphins should keep, their heads held high, this is the team's first game since adding Hanley and
Kira Villegas. After a few more practices and learning the offense from Head Coach
Phil Stern, the team will be firing on all cylinders.
The Dolphins now sit at an overall record of 6-4 and a Skyline Conference record of 4-2. CMSV will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they take on Purchase College in another Skyline Conference matchup.
