Dolphins Victorious In Conference Battle Against Knights

Box Score

Newburgh, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team has been playing extremely well as of late but it has yet to reflect in the win column. The Dolphins were looking to snap that streak on Thursday evening in a road matchup against Mount Saint Mary College of the Skyline Conference's North Division.

The first half couldn't have started better for senior Raiquis Harris and his teammates. The senior standout registered a game-high 15 points over the first 20 minutes of play, going seven of 12 from the field while accounting for more than half of his team's points. For a large majority of the half, it was all CMSV, as they were on top in a number of team categories including field goal and three point percentage, total rebounds, fast break points, and steals, among others.

While the Dolphins led for 15 minutes and 34 seconds, a late surge by the Knights knotted the game up at 24 going into halftime. Juniors Makai Johnson and Vinny Tavella and sophomore Kelvin Turner-Harris accounted for the remaining nine points for CMSV (three each). Harris also impressed on the boards with eight first half rebounds.

After the Knights opened the second half taking the lead, Johnson gained it right back for the Dolphins with a mid range jumper to make it 28-27. Johnson then went on a personal tear, scoring eight points in four straight possession, bringing the score to 34-27 and forcing a Mount Saint Mary timeout.

From there, both the Dolphins and Knights battled as they traded leads from the 12:38 mark all the way until there were four minutes left to play. Despite Mount Saint Mary doing their best to mount a comeback, Harris and sophomore Dorian Robinson combined for six clutch free throws in the final seconds helped ensure the 64-60 win.

Harris impressed with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds while also contributing three assists and two steals. Johnson posted a season-best 18 points on seven of 14 shooting while Turner-Harris and Robinson came off the bench and added seven combined points.

Now back in the win column, the Dolphins will look to continue to push in the right direction on the road against the United States Merchant Marine Academy this Saturday afternoon.
