Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team traveled to Patchogue on Saturday when they took on St. Joseph's College-Long Island in a Skyline Conference matchup. The Dolphins impressed throughout the entirety of the afternoon, defeating the Golden Eagles by the score of 81-67. The team is now 4-7 overall on the 2019-20 season and are .500 (1-1) against conference competition.
The Dolphins dominated over the first half of play as they shot an impressive 58% from the floor, including an even 40% from beyond the arc. CMSV excelled on the other end of the floor as well when they forced St. Joe's to have seven turnovers while making just 12 of their 30 shot attempts. Senior big
Mamadou Mariko dominated the first half, going eight of 10 from the floor, good for 18 points, while bringing down four rebounds and blocking two shots. Senior guard
Raiquis Harris was also efficient over the first 20 minutes of play as he converted four of seven shots (10 points) while adding four assists and two steals.
The theme of the game continued throughout the second half, with the Dolphins never looking back after finding success on the court. As a whole, the Dolphins outscored the Golden Eagles in the paint (48-14) and in second chance points (13-4) while seeing their largest lead balloon to 20 points. Mariko finished the contest with a season-high 20 points to go along with six boards, four blocks and two assists. Junior
Qwame Thompson exploded in the second half with 15 points and four steals while Harris ended his afternoon with 17 points and a team-high five assists. Junior forward
Vinny Tavella knocked down all four shots he took off the bench, including both baskets from the three point line.
The Dolphins will now set their sights on the Old Westbury Panthers, who will come to Riverdale on Tuesday night boasting a conference record of 3-1. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
