Box Score Glassboro, NY- The Men's Soccer team traveled to New Jersey early friday morning to take on NJAC power Rowan University. Despite their strong play early on the Dolphins fell 4-0. CMSV will need short term memory as they get right back into action tomorrow afternoon against another strong NJAC team in Rutgers-Camden.
In the first half of the Men's season opener the Dolphins defense was making impressive plays early on to hold the talented Rowan squad at bay for a big portion of the first half. Defender
Khari Greene and Goalie
Padelis Astrinidis held down the back line and held the Prof's scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play. Rowan would find the net in the 20
th minute to take a 1-0 lead on the Dolphins. The Dolphins defense would lock back in after the first goal and continue to play well until the 40
th minute when Rowan snuck a ball through the backside and get an easy tap in to extend their lead to 2-0 right before the half. This score would hold and the men would head into halftime trailing by two.
The Second half was nearly identical to the first half; the dolphins defense was playing strong until a small lapse in the 63
rd minute when a Rowan header found the back of the net to extend their lead to 3-0. The CMSV offense would generate some offense with two great chances but could not finish their opportunities. After nearly breaking through for their first goal of the season on a
Sony Konate shot, Rowan would respond with a goal of their own in the 72
nd minute to push their lead to 4-0. This final score would hold as the Dolphins could not find the back for the remainder of the game. Despite the loss CMSV had multiple bright spots throughout the match many of which featured their freshmen who will only get better as the season goes in.
The Men are now 0-1 on the season and they get right back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 when they take on another very talented Rutgers-Camden squad in their second game of the Gilmore Classic in Glassboro, NJ. The Men will look to bounce back and build off of today's season opener.
