Farmingdale, NY – The Softball team was back out on Long Island on this gloomy afternoon to take on Farmingdale in the double elimination round of the Skyline Conference playoffs. After a beautiful outing from
Hannah Thompson the Dolphins came up just short against the top-seeded Rams 2-0.
From the very first inning the game was an absolute pitcher's duel. Farmingdale's leadoff batter would get a hit in the first at bat of the game but Thompson would lock it down and only give up one hit the rest of the way. The Ram's pitcher would have the same type of outing not allowing a Dolphin's hit till the 5
th inning. Farmingdale would break the scoreless drought in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a walk, a few sacrifices and a triple, after the two runs crossed the plates Thompson would stop the bleeding and get the Dolphins out of the inning. CMSV would attempt to respond immediately and would come close to doing so.
Sophia Herrera and
Deanna Nardi would get on with two outs, but after a great battle at the plate by
Alicia Blevins the Ram's would get her to pop out and end the threat. Thompson came out in the bottom of the 5
th and 6
th and shutdown the Ram's offense giving the Dolphins one more chance in the top of the 7
th. Again the Dolphins would threaten with an impressive two out rally. CMSV would string together three singles off the bats of Herrera, Nardi and
Alanna Alioto-Reyes. After loading the bases with two outs, the Ram's third basemen made an impressive play and made the third and final out to end the comeback threat. This is a tough one for the Dolphins but they will need to bounce back right away as they play again this evening.
The women will be right back on the field this evening at 6:00 PM this time to take on the loser of Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's Long Island. The Dolphins will be fighting for their playoff lives as it is now win or go home. Live Links will be posted on twitter @CMSVATHLETICS thirty minutes before game time!
