Dolphins Fall In First Round Playoff Action

Westbury, NY –  The baseball team headed to Long Island on Wednesday afternoon for Skyline Conference playoff action. The Dolphins, who were in the playoffs for the first time in five years, were looking to advance to the semi-finals. After a tight contest, the Panthers of Old Westbury had a huge sixth inning and never looked back in route to the 11-5 victory.

Old Westbury struck first in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. After Peter Sanderson shut them down in the second inning, the Dolphins would tie things up thanks to an Isidoros Bartziokas single that drove in Matt DiNorcia. Old Westbury would answer in the bottom of the third with two runs of their own to re-take the lead, 3-1. It was time for the Dolphins to answer and that is just what they did in the top of the fifth, as Michael Grisanti double to center field to score DiNorcia. Anthony Nocero would follow this up with a double of his own to score Grisanti to knot the game up at three. Then came the sixth inning which was certainly one to forget for CMSV. Old Westbury's offense would catch fire and see eight runs cross the plate to take a commanding 11-3 lead. CMSV would battle back as they did all season,as  Nocero would hit a solo shot on the first pitch he saw in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 11-4. After holding the Panthers offense at bay for the seventh and eighth innings, CMSV would have one more chance in the top of the ninth. Nocero would produce yet again, driving in DiNorcia for his third RBI of the day. But it was too little too late for the Dolphins and they would fall by the score 11-5.

With the season now over the Dolphins have nothing to hang their heads about as they impressed all season long. CMSV ended a five-year playoff drought and won over 15 games for the first time since 2014. With a fantastic young core, you can expect to continue to see great things from this Dolphins squad. The sky is certainly the limit.
