Old Westbury, NY – Just a day after facing off with Skyline Conferences number one Farmingdale, the Dolphins traveled to Long Island to take on the Panthers of Old Westbury. The Women were looking to bounce back after yesterday's tough losses. That is just what the Dolphins did as they swept the Panthers, winning the first contest 8-6 and the second 10-1.
After a quick top half of the inning for CMSV the Panthers struck first to take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. But the Dolphins would answer right back thanks to a
Breeze-Lyn Morita double that drove in
Erin Patterson to cut the Panthers lead in half. The Dolphins would lock it up defensively for the next three innings and give their offense a chance to do some damage. That is just what happened as the CMSV offense exploded for five runs in the top half of the fourth.
Katie Moos,
Sophia Herrera and
Taylor Milata all recorded an RBI in the inning for the Dolphins. After shutting the Panthers down again in the bottom of the fourth, Herrera would come through again for the Dolphins driving in Morita and extending the Dolphins lead to 7-2. Old Westbury would get one back to cut the lead to 7-3 before
Lakisha Camacho drove in Milata to extend the lead back to five at 8-3. Old Westbury would threaten over the last two innings scoring three runs to cut he deficit to 8-6 however the Dolphins would hold strong and come out with the victory.
The Dolphins bats came out hot in the second game of the double header scoring six runs in the first three innings.
Alicia Blevins, Milata, Camacho and Moos would all earn RBIs which led to the commanding 6-0 lead after three. On the other side
Kimberly Medina was pitching beautifully only allowing two hits and one run while striking out a batter in the first three innings of play. CMSV bats would stay hot as they scored three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-1. As
Taylor Wittick would drive in
Alexa Moley and Herrera would drive in Abigail Laurendau. The Dolphins would add one more run in the fifth thanks to a Camacho single this would extend their lead to 10-1. This score would hold true as the pitching of Medina and the defense from CMSV was strong the rest of the way.
The Dolphins will be back in action this Wednesday when they take on Hunter College in non-conference action. CMSV now sits at an overall record of 7-14 and a Skyline Conference record of 4-2.
