Dolphins Top Panthers, Secure First Conference Victory Since 2015

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent played their first game on Marillac Field on Wednesday and gave their fans a big reason to cheer: the Dolphins won their first Skyline Conference game since 2015 when they defeated Purchase College by the score of 17-6. The victory proved to many that the team is headed in the right direction and could be a force to be reckoned with within the conference as soon as this season. 

The start of the game, however, didn't start as planned, as the Panthers netted their first shot on goal within the first minute and a half of the contest. While Morgan Pavlik responded quickly to put CMSV on the board, Purchase struck right back to take a 2-1 lead early on in the first half. From that point on, however, it was all Dolphins. 

Over a 10 minute span, CMSV rattled off four straight goals to give the ladies a three goal edge. Veronica Sevivas knotted the game up at two off a strong pass from Emma Dell'Aquila and then sophomore Caitlin Elia potted two straight off her own. From there, Amy Cohen added a goal to her stat sheet which furthered the Dolphins' momentum as the first half rolled on. The Panthers scored to of the next three goals to keep things close but CMSV came back and put in six unanswered goals to complete the dominant half. Dell'Aquila, Elia and Sevivas each scored two within the final nine minutes, resulting in a commanding 10-4 score at halftime. 

The dominance continued throughout the second half, as CMSV outscored the Panthers 5-2, leading to the 17-6 victory. Dell'Aquila had another dominant performance for her team, as the sophomore tallied five goals and five assists. Elia had an equally as impressive performance with four goals and an assist of her own while Sevivas scored four as well. Pavlik led the way with six draw controls in addition to two goals and Kacey Brown paced her team with four ground balls. Goaltender Allyson Weakliem recorded 12 saves in the afternoon affair. 

The Dolphins will look to keep their winning ways intact when they travel to Kings Point to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy on April 5.
