Teaneck, NJ - In preparation for the Skyline Conference playoffs, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team has a slate of non-conference matchups to complete their regular season, starting off against FDU-Florham on the road. Despite a strong effort by the opposing Devils, the Dolphins were able to thwart a late game comeback and escape with an 11-9 victory.
The Dolphins began on the right foot, as freshman standout
Michael Grisanti started things off with an RBI double. After the Devils regained the lead in the second, CMSV's offense flexed its muscles.
Jake Blinstrub,
Eric Zimmermann,
Nick Saranczak and
Dan Blake each picked up at least one RBI between the third and fourth innings, giving their team 7-2 lead. Despite being on top by five runs, the Dolphins struggled in the bottom half of the fourth, as FDU-Florham knotted things up at seven. After Zimmermann gave the Dolphins an 8-7 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, the Devils once again climbed back to tie things up in the bottom half of the sixth. Fortunately, however, Grisanti drove in two more runs with a double in the seventh to ensure the victory.
On the offensive side of things,
Pedro Fortoso led the way with three hits while Zimmerman, Blinstrub, Grisanti and Saranczak all had two apiece. Grisanti also picked up the win on the mound but it was Fortoso who impressed most out of the bullpen, as he pitched in three scoreless innings while allowing just one baserunner.
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways as the continue to get ready for the postseason. Their next matchup will be played against Baruch College on April 25. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
