Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dolphins Struggle Against Golden Eagles

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team celebrated Erin Bovee and Amy Cohen for the contributions to the program in a pregame celebration for their final game on Marillac Field. After the festivities, the Dolphins played host to Skyline Conference powerhouse St. Joseph's College-Long Island and defeated CMSV by the score of 19-7.

The Dolphins got off to a hot start in the afternoon matchup, as sophomore standout Caitlin Elia buried the first goal of the game at the 26 minute mark to give her team an early one goal advantage. After the Golden Eagles rattled off two straight to take their first lead of the contest, impressive second year player Emma Dell'Aquila potted a goal of her own to even things up at two. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, St. Joe's went on to score four straight goals of their own, bringing the score to 6-2. But CMSV wasn't done yet, as Morgan Pavlik and Dell'Aquila buried back to back shots to cut the Golden Eagles' lead to just two goals. But St. Joe's went into halftime on a high note when they scored six more goals to close out the first 30 minutes of play. Dell'Aquila and Veronica Sevivas scored a pair late in the first half but the Golden Eagles were firmly in the lead by the time play restarted.

From there, it was all Golden Eagles, as the opposition scored seven unanswered goals, good enough to finish the game off with a victory. Dell'Aquila buried yet another shot for the Dolphins late in the second but it was too little, too late for the home team. Paulina Mandujano, Sophia Raccolin and Kacey Brown all registered assists in the game, with Brown also leading her team with five ground balls and six caused turnovers. Goaltender Allyson Weakliem registered 11 saves over the 60 minutes of play.

With the Dolphins playing their final game at home on Thursday, they'll have to regain their winning ways on the road for the rest of the season. The team will return to action on Saturday when they take on Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary College.
