Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Win Second Conference Game On Road Over Golden Eagles

Patchogue, NY - After a week long break, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team hit the road to Long Island to take on St. Joseph's College in the team's third Skyline Conference contest of the season. The Dolphins were able to return to their winning ways by defeating the Golden Eagles by the score of 61-46. CMSV is now 4-2 through the first six games of the year, including a 2-1 record against conference competition.

The Dolphins have had better offensive halves thus far but the defense is what led to a nine point lead going into halftime. As a whole, CMSV forced the Golden Eagles to shoot just 17% from the floor while causing six turnovers. Senior guard Leah Pinili led the way over the first 20 minutes of play with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists while DarNeisha Brice and Gabriela Goldman combined for 14 points. Ashley Martin dominated the boards with seven rebounds while Brice also recorded two steals.

The second half was similar to the first, as the Dolphins didn't have their best offensive game. But the Phil Stern-led team was able to overcome their shortcomings, as they both hit key baskets in opportune times while shooting 71% from the charity stripe. It was once again Brice who led all scorers with 15 points while Aria Rheams registered her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Dez Brown came off the bench and added seven points and eight rebounds and Pinili finished an impressive stat line with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The Dolphins, who opened the season ranked eighth in the conference's preseason poll, will look to continue their winning ways at home on Thursday when they take on the Panthers of Old Westbury. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
