Box Score Thousand Oaks, CA- The Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team headed to Cal Lutheran on Sunday afternoon to wrap up their west coast trip. The Dolphins were looking to win their second straight game and enjoy a nice flight back to New York after doing so. After a toughly contested match CMSV found a way to earn their second win of the season 69-66.
The first half was certainly not the Dolphins best, although they did lead for a majority of the first half a 6-0 run to end the half put Cal Lutheran ahead 33-29 at the break. For the Dolphins in the first half it was
Raiquis Harris,
Mamadou Mariko and
Kalos Evans getting it done on the offensive end as the trio combined for 24 of the Dolphins 29 first half points. Harris was certainly the bright spot as the senior guard added seven rebounds and two assists to his nine first half points.
The Dolphins struggles would continue into the second half as Cal Lutheran would remain in control and slowly grow their lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Kingsmen seemed to have an answer for every big shot the Dolphins hit and would maintain an eight point lead, until
Qwame Thompson got the Dolphins going. The junior guard found
Vinny Tavella for a layup to cut the lead to six and then on the ensuing possession took the ball coast to coast after a defensive rebound to cut the Kingsmen lead to four with six minutes to play and force a Kingsmen timeout. The Dolphins would continue to get defensive stops and finally tie the game up at 64 when
Dorian Robinson knocked down a huge three pointer at the three minute mark. After the team traded stops it was Thompson driving the baseline and finding a wide open Evans who knocked down the three to give the Dolphins their first lead of the second half with just two minutes to play. The Dolphins defense would hold strong over the last two minutes allowing the Kingsmen only two points paving the way to their 69-66 victory.
The Men now sit at an overall of 2-4 and will be heading back to New York this evening. The Dolphins will have a quick turnaround as they take on NYU in Peter Jay Sharp on Wednesday night at 7PM.
