The women's basketball team was back at the Peter Jay Sharp Center for the first time since December 15. The ladies took full advantage of being back at home and snapped their three game losing streak while picking up their second conference victory thanks to a phenomenal second half. CMSV won the contest by a score of 61-31.
CMSV was out and running early and often in the first half and pounding the ball inside. A great first half by sophomore
Aria Rheams who had eight points and three rebounds led the way, with
Yamilersy Reyes right behind her with six points and five rebounds of her own. The Dolphins up tempo style played their advantage as they jumped out to a 22-10 lead in the middle of the second quarter. The Dolphins looked to be well on their way to dominating the first half until the Eagles got hot from beyond the arc and ended the first half on an 11-4 run, which resulted in a 26-21 lead for CMSV going into the break.
The ladies came out in the second half on a mission, continuously pushing the pace, forcing steals and creating offense. Leah Pinilli led the charge on defense and was a huge part of the 10-0 run that started the third quarter. The dominant defense continued throughout and CMSV held the Eagles to only two third quarter points and took a 42-23 lead into the final quarter. The Dolphins did not let up off the gas pedal as they continued their up tempo game and dominant defense. CMSV outscored the Eagles 35-10 in the second half. The Dolphins were led by Reyes who had 18 points and six boards while Rheams added 16 points and eight rebounds. This was the best Dolphin performance this season and they will be looking to build going into the heart of conference play.
The women will get right back after it in the Peter Jay Sharp Center as they host another Skyline Conference foe on Tuesday night. They will be taking on the Rams from Farmingdale State and will be looking to build off this afternoon's performance and win back to back games for the first time this season. The women now sit at an overall record of 3-9 and a Skyline Conference record of 2-5.
