Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team looked to end their three game skid in their rescheduled matchup against Purchase College on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a late fourth quarter comeback, the Dolphins squandered it and dropped the contest to the Panthers by the score of 75-66.
The Dolphins and Panthers started the game with back and forth basketball, as CMSV trailed by just four after the first 10 minutes of play. The Dolphins saw contributions from all over their roster, as
Dez Brown,
Aaliyah Lyn,
Aria Rheams,
Kadesha Hamilton,
Fatima Monsour and
Gabriela Goldman all scored at least two points. The second quarter, however, was a different story, as the Panthers pulled away and scored 29 points to the Dolphins' 14, giving the road team a 19 point lead going into halftime.
Throughout the second half of play, CMSV outscored their opponents 39-29, including going on a run that saw Purchase's lead go from 19 to single digits. Unfortunately, the first half deficit was too much for the Dolphins to overcome. Despite the loss, Brown had a strong game, posting 13 points and six boards in 17 minutes. Goldman and Rheams combined for 13 points and nine rebounds while the freshman duo of
Ivana Montano and
Alyssa Contes came off the bench and provided valuable minutes in the comeback attempt.
CMSV is now 4-12 on the season with a 3-8 Skyline Conference record. They will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Brooklyn to take on the Bears of St. Joseph's College.
