Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team took their home court once again to look for their second Skyline Conference win at the Peter Jay Sharp Center this season. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, their home struggles continued, as CMSV dropped a tight affair to Purchase College by the score of 83-80.
Throughout the first half of play, the Dolphins played their best basketball to date. As a whole, the team shot 47% from the floor, including an impressive 54% from beyond the arc, while having their lead to rise to 19 points. The commanding 20 minute half was highlighted by
Jason Barrera, who had 18 points, eight rebounds and a pair of highlight-reel dunks. Sophomore
Makai Johnson also chipped in positively by knocking down three of his five three point attempts.
The contest flipped in the second half, as the Dolphins struggled on both ends of the court. The biggest discrepancy came at the free throw line, where the Panthers converted 81% of their attempts while CMSV missed five crucial shots from the charity stripe. Barrera (23 points and 18 rebounds) and Johnson (11 points) were two of four Dolphins who reached double figures, who were joined by
Raiquis Harris (12 points, nine rebounds and four assists) and
Kalos Evans (14 points). Senior
Mamadou Mariko did his best to keep the Dolphins in the game throughout the second half, as he scored on three of his four shot attempts while knocking down two of four free throws.
This loss brings CMSV's record to 5-11, including a 4-7 mark within the conference. They will look to end their two-game skid on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Newburgh to take on Mount Saint Mary College.
