Riverdale, N.Y. - The women's basketball team took their home floor on January 15 and dominated from the opening whistle against Skyline foe Sarah Lawrence. The women shot an astounding 42% from beyond the arc and 37% from the floor. Thanks to their strong shooting display the women cruised to a 79-53 victory over the Gryphons.
The first half, the women started off hot with three three balls in the opening four minutes, two of which came from Gabriella Goldman who was feeling it all night long for the Dolphins. The sharp shooting had the Dolphins out to a quick 16-7 lead. Thanks to a few Sarah Lawrence threes prior to the end of the first they cut into the lead and had the score at 20-14 going into the second frame. The second quarter was a back and forth affair that ended with CMSV extending their lead to nine 33-24.
The ladies came to play in the second half, both offensively and defensively.
Yamilersy Reyes,
Dez Brown and
Aria Rheams led the way defensively, as the trio registered five steals. The offensive end featured multiple Dolphins in double figures. Rheams, Reyes, Goldman, Leah Pinilli and Aayliah Lyn all broke double digits for CMSV and helped them cruise to their 79-53 conference victory.
The women will travel to Newburgh this weekend to take on the Mount Saint Mary Knights and look to avenge their early season loss. The women now improve to 4-10 overall and a conference record of 3-6.
