Dolphins Get Conference Victory Over Maritime

Riverdale, N.Y. - After a disappointing home loss against Farmingdale State College on Tuesday night, the Dolphins took the court looking to gain momentum in Skyline Conference play when they traveled to Throggs Neck to take on SUNY Maritime. Fortunately for James Mooney's squad, they did just that, as CMSV took home the 79-70 victory. The win propels the Dolphins to a 5-9 overall record with a 4-5 mark against conference competition.

The Dolphins played far from their best defense in the first half of the contest, as they allowed the Privateers to shoot 44% from the field and an eye-popping 57% from beyond the arc. Despite the troubles, the team held their own on the offensive end. Both Jason Barrera and Vinny Tavella paced the team with seven points over the first 20 minutes of play, while senior Mamadou Mariko came off the bench and provided six points of his own.

The second half featured the up-tempo, ball moving offense that the Dolphins are now known for. As a whole, the team impressed from all over the court, as they converted 15 of their 26 shot attempts and knocked down 50% of their three point attempts. Top scorer Raiquis Harris found his groove over the final 20 minutes, as he scored 19 second half points, while Barrera and Claudio Nmezi combined for 15 points of their own. Harris finished the night with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three steals while Barrera was one board shy of his own double double (12 points, nine rebounds). Mariko scored in double figures off the bench while Tavella and Nmezi had a combined 16 points and 12 rebounds. Tavella was also tied with Makai Johnson for a team-high three assists.

The Dolphins return to the court on Saturday afternoon where they'll take on the tough Purchase Panthers at home. The team will look to reach .500 against Skyline Conference competition while simultaneously looking to improve their home record.
