Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team entered Tuesday night at an even .500 in both their overall and conference records. But once the final buzzer went off, they improved on both accounts, as the Dolphins defeated the Purchase Panthers by the wide margin of 74-33. The victory improves CMSV to 10-9 on the season with a Skyline Conference record of 8-7.
From the first whistle to the last, it was all Dolphins. Allowing just six points in the first quarter was a sign of things to come, as the women played stout defense all game long. The Panthers shot just 19% from the floor - including 12.5% from three - over the 40 minutes of play. They also turned the ball over 11 times.
And as good as the Dolphins were on defense, they were equally as impressive on the other end. Junior
Kelly Oliver had a tremendous performance, as she led all her teammates with 26 points while converting seven three point attempts. She also contributed eight rebounds. She wasn't the only one, as senior
Kristen Merrell filled up her stat sheet with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while freshman Arian Rheams shot made half of her field goal attempts (nine points) and pulled down 11 boards.
The win has the Dolphins in prime position for a playoff spot, as they're ranked fifth in the conference. They will return to action on February 11 when they travel to Yeshiva University.
