Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. - The Sharp Center was rocking on Thursday night, as the College of Mount Saint Vincent men's basketball team - the top team in the Skyline Conference - went toe-to-toe with the impressive Yeshiva University Maccabees. Despite a tremendous effort to close the gap to one possession, a missed three pointer at the buzzer resulted in a 78-75 loss. The Dolphins now sit at 13-7 on the year, including a 11-4 record in conference play.
Throughout the first half, it was all Yeshiva. The Maccabees shot a dominant 67% from the field, with Gabriel Leifer leading the way with 19 points and eight boards. At the same time, the Dolphins struggled on offense; while they turned the ball over just twice, they failed to make baskets as they converted on just 37% of their field goals. Because of this, the Maccabees went into the locker room with a 22-point lead.
While the result was still a loss, the second half was a different story. The Dolphins' defense forced Yeshiva to turn the ball over 13 times while successfully scoring on 50% of their shots.
Andrew Curiel impressed with 12 points in the final 20 points, while
Jose Maestre scored eight of his own. Despite continuously cutting the lead down,
Raiquis Harris saw his shot attempt go in and out at the final buzzer, insuring the Maccabees the win. Senior
Ammad Alkhulaidi continued his dominant season, as he led his team in points (18), rebounds (nine) and assists (seven). Curiel finished the evening with 17 points and seven boards while junior Jason Barrerra scored double-digits as well (10).
Despite the loss, the Dolphins continue to impress in their great bounce-back season under Coach
James Mooney. They'll return to action on Saturday when they travel to Long Island to take on the St. Joseph's College Golden Eagles.
