Riverdale, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Vincent men's basketball team struggled in a big loss to Yeshiva University on Saturday night by the score of 99-56. CMSV now sits at an overall record of 2-4, including a .500 record against Skyline Conference opponents.
When CMSV and Yeshiva get together in a Skyline Conference matchup, it is normally a good one. For the first 14 minutes of Saturday night's game, it was just that, with a ton of energy, hustle and grit on display. But once their was six minutes left on the clock, something clicked for the Maccabees. With six minutes and thirty seconds remaining and the score reading 26-22 Yeshiva, this was as close as the game would be the rest of the night. Yeshiva got red hot and went on a 16-4 run to close out the half and take a 42-26 lead at the break. The bright spot for the Dolphins in the first half was senior forward
Jason Barrera, who shot 4-5 from the field. Barrera finished the half with nine points, two rebounds and a steal.
The Dolphins have come back from large deficits before but they could not get anything going. Yeshiva dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring CMSV 30-9. Yeshiva never looked back and cruised to victory. This was the worst game of the season for the Dolphins thus far. They shot a season low 30% from the field and an even lower 23% from behind the arc. Not only were their shots not falling but CMSV also got out-rebounded 48-26.
CMSV will need some short term memory as they travel to Bronxville to take on Sarah Lawerence this Tuesday. The Gryphons are playing great basketball right now and are currently 3-1 in the Skyline. The Dolphins will be looking to get back in their groove and secure their second conference win of the season.
