How It Happened
Match #1
To open up the tri-match, CMSV faced off with Skyline rival Farmingdale. The Dolphins, who have had a rough start to conference play, got back on track today and appeared to regain their winning ways. Farmingdale, who came into today's match up undefeated in Skyline Conference play, could not handle the balanced attack of the Dolphins, which featured
Tara Maloney (11 kills),
Samantha Schroeder, (nine kills) and Alex Madden (eight kills). Aside from the balanced attack at the net, Schroeder,
Madison Gale, and
Alexandra Rio all chipped in with two aces apiece. On the defensive end, the Dolphins were in top form. Leading the way was Rio with 13 digs, with Gale adding 10 of her own. This was the result CMSV was expecting all year after being ranked third in preseason polls. This is a huge step in the right direction for the Dolphins.
Match #2
For the second match of the day, CMSV took on Purchase in hopes of improving to .500 in conference play and keep home playoff dreams alive. The Dolphins did just that, as CMSV came out and dominated from the first serve on, taking the first set 25-7. The Dolphins were led by
Tara Maloney in the first set who had six kills. Much of the same action occurred as the sets went on, as the Dolphins kept up some of their best play thus far this season and continued their dominant performance going on to win the both the second set and final set by the score of 25-15. After the success in both matches today, it seems the Dolphins are officially back and ready make a run at a high playoff seed.
What's Next?
The Dolphins will continue Skyline Conference play on Tuesday evening at 7PM in Riverdale against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The Dolphins will look to continue their hot play and climb up the Skyline Conference standings.
