Dolphins Fall To Maccabees In Tough Conference Matchup

The Background
  • Final Score: College of Mount Saint Vincent 1, Yeshiva 2.
  • Records: College of Mount Saint Vincent (1-10, 0-5 Skyline), Yeshiva (5-3, 3-1 Skyline).
  • Where: Athletic Field, Riverdale, New York.
How It Happened
  • Yeshiva came out ready to play on friday afternoon. Two minutes into the game, they created a fast break and jumped out to a very early 1-0 lead.
  • The remainder of the first half was a very physical defensive standoff, with the Dolphins strong defense led by senior captain Tim Guido
  • The Dolphins had their opportunities as they controlled the ball for a majority of the first half but could not put the ball in the back of the net.
  • In the second half, CMSV came out firing and earned themselves a corner three minutes in. On the corner, Luciano Cirelli played a beautiful ball on the cross. Colin Bhat was on the receiving end as he buried the header into the bottom corner to tie the game at one.
  • The game went right back to being a defensive standoff as it seemed neither team could break through and score the game winner.
  • With overtime on the minds of many, Yeshiva had a different idea. The Maccabees came up with a header of their own off of some beautiful passing in the box to take a 2-1 lead with only 12 minutes remaining in the game.
  •  Padelis Astrinidis continued his strong play in net for the Dolphins. Astrinidis turned away six shots and is number one in the conference for total saves and saves per game.
What's Next?
  • The Dolphins will hop right back into it as they play Sunday, October 7 at home against conference foe Purchase College. This is a rematch of last years quarterfinal matchup that ended with CMSV winning in penalty kicks.
