Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dolphins Split Final Tri-match Of 2018

Riverdale, N.Y. - In the final series of games of the 2018 season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team traveled to take on Southern Maine and Eastern Connecticut State University in a tri-match on October 27. The Dolphins looked sharp heading into the Skyline Conference playoffs, as the team handedly defeated the Huskies by the score of 3-1. While they dropped their second game to the Warriors, it was tightly contested throughout.

In what has been a theme all year long, CMSV was led by junior standout Tara Maloney against Southern Maine, who recorded 23 total kills, raising her team-high number to 274 for the season. A pair of freshmen aided in the team's offensive efforts, as Samantha Schroeder and Rianna Rivera had 13 and nine kills, respectively, while Madison Gale chipped in with 28 assists. The Dolphins also had success at the net as well, with recording a game-high four blocks with Maloney, junior Dez Brown and freshman Alexandra Madden adding two apiece.

The second contest of the weekend looked similar to the first, as Maloney, Schroeder and Madden led the Dolphins in kills. Senior Patsy Sewell performed admirably as well, as she added 11 assists to her resume. Junior Alexandra Rio was tied for the team lead in aces while ranking second in digs.

With this split, CMSV finishes their regular season with an 11-16 overall record, including a 6-4 mark against conference opponents. The Dolphins will now set their sights on the postseason, as they will prepare to host Farmingdale in the first round on Tuesday evening. This will serve as a rematch of last year's semifinals.
