Astrinidis Breaks Program Record In Season Finale

The Background
  • Final Score: College of Mount Saint Vincent 0, Old Westbury 4.
  • Records: College of Mount Saint Vincent (3-15, 1-9 Skyline), Old Westbury (9-5-4, 5-1-4 Skyline).
  • Where: Oyster Bay, New York.
How It Happened
  • The Dolphins were in trouble early as senior captain Tim Guido picked up a questionable foul in the box just three minutes into the contest, picking up a red card in the process. The foul resulted in a penalty kick and Old Westbury capitalized, taking an early 1-0 lead.
  • More bad luck struck the Dolphins in the 26th minute when the Panthers played a ball into the box, with the ball deflecting off CMSV and into our own goal. This gave the Panthers an early two goal advantage.
  • The Dolphins defense held strong for the rest of the half and kept them in the game. CMSV has seen this deficit before and was hoping to create so magic and end the season on a nice come from behind victory.
  • Old Westbury put an end to the season for CMSV as they came out and scored their third goal only 15 minutes into the second half. Then they went on to add their fourth goal five minutes later.
  • Despite giving up four goals, junior goalkeeper Padelis Astrinidis did all he could to keep CMSV in the match. Astrinidis registered eight saves for the Dolphins, which gives him 157 on the season. This tally makes Astrinidis number one all time for saves in a season in CMSV history.
  • This was not the ending the Dolphins were looking for but with the young core growing throughout this year and getting better everyday things are looking up for the program. The Dolphins lose three seniors to graduation but return many key players. CMSV will be looking to make some noise next year in the Skyline Conference.

What's Next?
  • Due to struggles within the conference, the Dolphins will not be returning to the Skyline playoffs. They will look to rebound and build off their young core for next season.
